The CyberAI Research and Education Center (CARE) at Georgia State University advances AI-enabled cybersecurity through three research pillars: detecting social engineering at machine speed (phishing, vishing, and deepfake fraud), understanding hacker communities and the vulnerability lifecycle through large-scale analytics, and building trustworthy AI systems for security operations. The center is directed by Dr. Benjamin M. Ampel (Assistant Professor, Computer Information Systems) and builds on research published in MIS Quarterly, the Journal of Management Information Systems, ACM TMIS, and IEEE ISI.
CARE research is supported by federally funded programs including NSF SFS and CICI and an Army Research Lab cooperative agreement, with collaborating researchers at the University of Arizona AI Lab, Indiana University DSAIL, UTSA, and MIT. Graduate researchers work on funded projects spanning phishing URL classification, protected health information leakage in hacker communities, and AI-assisted cybersecurity training.
